Berita Harian featured Lemaq’s owner, Nerita Yolanda, who worked together with Food Innovation & Resource Centre (FIRC) on a project which aimed to extend the shelf life of Lemaq’s signature Kuih Jongkong. Before this project, Mdm Nerita Yolanda sold Kuih Jongkong which lasted only 3 days. Mdm Nerita observed that the colour and consistency of the Kuih Jongkong would change in just a span of 3 days, causing her to discard a number of spoilt kuih jongkong. With the help of FIRC, Lemaq now sells kuih jongkong which lasts up to 7 days, with almost no difference in terms of taste or texture of this dessert. With a longer shelf life, Mdm Nerita feels more confident in selling her Kuih Jongkong to her customers because she is certain the Kuih Jongkong would still be tasty and safe to be consumed even if it has been kept for a few days. Besides reducing wastage, this project has surely proved to have increased the quality of Lemaq’s signature dessert - Kuih Jongkong.
